SEND Teaching Assistant

Due to growing demand, we are seeking dedicated and enthusiastic SEND Teaching Assistants to support pupils in schools across Clevedon, Bridgwater, Weston-super-Mare, and surrounding areas.

About the Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and SENCOs to provide tailored support for pupils with a range of needs, helping them access learning, build confidence, and achieve their full potential.

You may be supporting children on a one-to-one basis, within small group interventions, or as part of a classroom team.

You will support pupils with:

  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
  • ADHD
  • Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs (SEMH)
  • Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD)
  • Complex and Additional Learning Needs

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with SEND.
  • Support learning activities inside and outside the classroom.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Implement individual education and behaviour support plans.
  • Encourage engagement, independence, and confidence.
  • Support social, emotional, and behavioural development.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and wider school staff.
  • Create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.

The Ideal Candidate

To be considered for this role, you must have previous experience working with children who have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

We are looking for individuals who:

  • Have proven experience supporting children with SEND.
  • Are patient, caring, and resilient.
  • Have strong behaviour management and communication skills.
  • Can build positive relationships with children and staff.
  • Are passionate about inclusive education.
  • Can adapt their approach to meet individual pupil needs.
  • Work effectively as part of a wider school team.

Experience within schools is highly desirable, although we also welcome applications from candidates with relevant experience in:

  • Care settings

  • Health and social care
  • Psychology-related roles
